Feline Mammary Tumors

چکیده
Mammary cancer is the third most common cancer in the cat. The average age of cats presenting with mammary tumors is 10-12 years. Siamese cats appear to have twice the risk of developing mammary cancers than other breeds. Recent studies suggest that spayed female cats have a 40-60% lower risk of mammary cancer than intact females. There is a strong association with the use of synthetic progestins or estrogenprogestin combinations (i.e. Ovaban) and development of mammary tumors in the cat. Ninety percent of the mammary tumors in cats are malignant.

Immunohistochemical analysis of cyclin A, cyclin D1 and P53 in mammary tumors, squamous cell carcinomas and basal cell tumors of dogs and cats.
The involvement of cyclin A, cyclin D1 and p53 proteins in canine and feline tumorigenesis was analyzed immunohistochemically. In the present study, a total of 176 cases were examined, among which there were 108 canine cases (75 mammary lesions, 16 squamous cell carcinomas and 17 basal cell tumors) and 68 feline cases (43 mammary lesions, 20 squamous cell carcinomas and 5 basal cell tumors). Sp...
متن کاملAmplification of the cyclin A gene in canine and feline mammary tumors.
DNAs from 33 canine mammary tumors and 8 feline mammary carcinomas were examined by Southern blot analysis to clarify genomic abnormalities of the cyclin A gene. Amplification of cyclin A was detected in 27.3% (9/33) of canine mammary tumors and 87.5% (7/8) of feline mammary carcinomas. It was suggested that amplification of cyclin A do not correlate directly with the tumorigenesis of canine ma...
متن کاملFlow cytometric DNA ploidy analysis of feline mammary tumors.
Flow cytometric DNA analysis was performed on biopsies from 9 nonmalignant and 111 malignant (primary and metastatic) feline mammary lesions. In our series, 46.3% of the primary mammary carcinomas appeared to be aneuploid, whereas all but one benign breast lesion were diploid. The degree of aneuploidy in carcinomas was low, with a relatively high number of primary tumors (12 of 82) displaying h...
متن کاملClassification and grading of canine malignant mammary tumors
Histological grading is a good parameter to stratify tumors according to their biological aggressiveness. The Elston and Ellis grading method in humans, invasive ductal breast carcinomas and other invasive tumors are routinely used. The aims of this study were classification of mammary gland tumors and also application of a human grading method in canine mammary carcinoma. The samples included ...
متن کاملRetraction Note: Comparative value of clinical, cytological, and histopathological features in feline mammary gland tumors; an experimental model for the study of human breast cancer
BACKGROUND The diagnosis of breast lesions is usually confirmed by fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) or histological biopsy. Although there is increasing literature regarding the advantages and limitations of both modalities, there is no literature regarding the accuracy of these modalities for diagnosing breast lesions in high-risk patients, who usually have lesions detected by screening....
متن کاملSpontaneous feline mammary carcinoma is a model of HER2 overexpressing poor prognosis human breast cancer.
Companion animal spontaneous tumors are suitable models for human cancer, primarily because both animal population and the tumors are genetically heterogeneous. Feline mammary carcinoma (FMC) is a highly aggressive, mainly hormone receptor-negative cancer, which has been proposed as a model for poor prognosis human breast cancer. We have identified and studied the feline orthologue of the HER2 ...
